Vote for the Chamber's "Business Person of the Year" Award - Vote by September 15


The Amador County Chamber of Commerce presents the Business Person of the Year Award annually. This year we have several deserving nominees and hope you will help us select the business person most worthy of this award. 

This award is presented each year to highlight businesses within our community who have shown they have staying power, have the ability to succeed in situations of adversity and who contribute to community projects. We have several nominees this year who deserve recognition for their accomplishments and community service.Please let us know -  WE NEED YOUR INPUT.

Information needed:

DICK COOPER - For more than 30 years he has grown some of the most sought after grapes in Shenandoah Valley. He has been farming for more than 50 years and in 2000, he opened Cooper Vineyards which led to the 2004 opening of their Tasting Room as well. All of his daughters are involved in this family run business. As a singer and guitarist himself, Dick has organized the Barbera Festival for the last 4 years with funds going to local charities.
An annual Spaghetti Western is another event at the vineyards raising money for cancer research. Dick is a founder and past President of the of the Amador Wine Grape Growers and has served in many capacities including Manager for the Amador County Fair.

PATRICK CREW -  Pat has been a successful business person in Amador County for 38 years with Jackson Tire, and this business continues to this day with the belief that they must deliver service beyond compare. Their business thrived even with chain stores moving in and eventually closing. Pat is past President and major donor to the Jackson Rotary, founding member and President of the Amador Fair Foundation, President of the Amador Community Foundation, founding member JBCA and 4 years President, past President Native Sons of the Golden West , parlor 31. He has also served with many sports teams, provided financial support for Operation Care, served 6 years on the Jackson City Council and 3 years as Mayor. He is involved in numerous community endeavors and feels this is a way of giving back to a city that has been so good to him and his family.
TODD DALEY - Todd has been managing movie theaters for the past 13 years. He became General Manager of the Regal Jackson Cinemas 3 years ago and introduced $1 children's movies and was chosen as one of the top 10 best managed theaters in the entire regal Entertainment Group. Todd also is married with 2 little girls and he volunteers In their classes every week. He has donated time as a Chamber of Commerce Director and donated tickets to schools, non-profit groups and many organizations throughout our community.

ROBERT MANASSERO - Robert has worked with Manassero Insurance for 48 years and has owned the business since 1972, serving the diverse insurance needs of Amador County residents.  He is a past President of Golden Sierra Insurance Services Inc. and is a partner and current Manager of Plasse's Resort.  Robert has been involved with our amazing Amador County Fair as a lifetime Foundation Member and current Board Member and past President too.  He is also a member of the Italian Benevolent Society and organizer for the Italian Picnic Parade, member of the Old Sutter Creek Grammar School Commission, past Exalted Ruler and current member of the Jackson Elks Lodge, past President and member of the Amador County Chamber of Commerce.  Robert is also currently District 4 Director for the Amador Water Agency. Robert and his wife, Carolyn, have two sons, Anthony and Robert.

JASON MULFORD - Victory Village is a veterans transitional housing project founded by Jason Mulford. Jason served in the Marine Corps for 6 years and is now medically retired due to injuries sustained during his service. In 2012 he had a vision from God which led him to serve homeless veterans and their families in Amador County. Today he and his wife, Nichole, operate a 20 bed transitional program which has housed more than 80 veterans. This organization is 100% volunteer. Jason is also involved with incarcerated
veterans, is working with the Governor's Interagency Council on Veterans for affordable housing and he hopes to become ordained in the Church of the Nazarene.

ABRA TEAGUE - Abra has achieved the American dream by opening 3 Jamba Juice Stores over the past 3 years. These stores are located in Jackson, South Lake Tahoe and Carson City. She will tell you that when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade - literally. During the economic downturn she has figured out processes to make these businesses profitable. She has given to numerous local charities and has made donations of product to groups such as Celebrate our Children, Sober Grad and A-PAL Humane Society. She has begun serving fresh juices from fresh produce and with 4 beautiful children and a great husband says she is working on balancing family and business.

Amador Council of Tourism - Thurs Sept 11

Hello, everyone-

I hope you are enjoying the cooler weather and the event increase on the calendar.

Amador Council of Tourism is holding its quarterly evening meeting, next Thursday, Sept 11 5:30 pm, at the Holiday Inn Express. Please stop by and see the pool and outdoor area under construction. As always, refreshments will be provided.

A couple of updates:

1.       Publishing on Sunday, September 14th will be an insert in the newspapers owned by Bay Area News Group,which include San Jose Mercury, Contra Costa Times, Oakland Tribune, Santa Cruz Sentinel. This insert was sponsored by Amador Vintners Association and Amador Council of Tourism and all of our local businesses that bought an ad. Editorial happened independently of us and I hope it gives us all a bump in business through the fall season. Thank you to those who bought ads and supported the publication.

2.       A new map is available at the office. While we are pulling together the new edition of the visitors guide, the map will serve as an interim piece for our visitors, and to fulfill requests from our ads and our website. If you want some for your business, please stop by and pick some up. Thank you to our map sponsors: Amador Vintners Association, Black Chasm Cavern, City of Plymouth, and Davenport Properties.

3.       Strategic Marketing Group is developing a marketing proposal for Amador County. Look for an invite to hear what the report has to say and what our next steps will be. This information can help us grow the pie for all of our businesses going forward. Thanks to those who participated in the focus groups; Amador businesses and regions were well-represented.

4.       Speaking of our new visitors guide, I will send out a call next week, for advertisers in the next edition. Details of price, ad size and distribution will be included. The ad costs support the design and print costs.
