What is cap-and-trade?
California's cap-and-trade program, that began on January 1st, 2013, is a crucial part of Assembly Bill 32 (AB 32), the state's Global Warming Solutions Act that commits to statewide Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reductions to 1990 levels by 2020, a 15% reduction from "business as usual". With cap-and-trade, the state sets a cap to limit emissions and auctions off allowances. Companies that keep their emissions below the cap can "trade" emission credits to those companies exceeding their limit.

How will cap-and-trade revenue be spent?
The revenues from these auctions will be used to reduce GHG emissions and, to the extent feasible, achieve co-benefits such as job creation, air quality improvements, public health benefits, improved transportation, and forest health.

Why does this matter to the Sierra?
Communities around the state are organizing to apply for the various pools of cap-and-trade funding. SBC is working to ensure that rural communities in the Sierra and elsewhere remain eligible for this funding.

Check out Kerri Timmer's cap-and-trade blog post on the SBC website to learn more!

It's not too late to be included in Plaid Friday promotions...for FREE!

It's Not Too Late !!
Nov. 6, 2014

It's not too late to be included in Plaid Friday promotions -- and it's FREE!
On Friday after Thanksgiving, just offer a discount or special to shoppers wearing PLAID to support local and independent businesses (instead of going to the mall on "Black Friday)."
JBCA and the Amador Council of Tourism will advertise Plaid Friday and produce an on-line shopping guide listing participating Amador County businesses and their offer. Click here for more info and a form to sign up.

Another fabulous way to promote your Jackson business Thanksgiving weekend -- Hotel Welcome Packages!

JBCA will provide Jackson hotels with a Welcome Gift of coupons and offers from Jackson businesses for their Thanksgiving weekend guests. They'll also get information about Christmas Delights, PlaidFriday and A Children's Christmas at The Hub.
Just drop off 100 coupons at the JBCA office (148 Main St) by Friday, Nov. 21 and we will get them to our out-of-town visitors. Wow! It's like that Staples "Easy" button!
