Amador Council of Tourism - Thurs Aug 9

 Hello, everyone-
I hope this note finds you well and staying cool this summer.
ACT's board meeting is this Thursday, August 9th, 9 am, Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort, Ballroom C. A VIP breakfast will be served; come hungry. Attached you will find an agenda and minutes from April and May. We had an evening meeting in June and do not meet in July. All are welcome.
Please note the changed location. Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort has generously offered to host our morning meetings in October and November as well.
In case you have not heard, Amador County won a gold ribbon at State Fair this year. Six of the nine Gold Country counties won gold ribbons as well. Attendance was flat compared to last year. Our booth was very popular and had wonderful traffic. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, we had somebody there to answer questions nearly all hours that State Fair was open. Please thank anyone you know who volunteered their time and knowledge for us at State Fair.
Please remember we are here to support your business. Drop off brochures and discount coupons here at the visitor center and we will gladly get them into the hands of visitors. Review your website listing for accuracies and phone or email us if you need help with changes. Remember also to forward your events to us and we will add them to the event calendar.
Please do not hesitate to call us with any questions or suggestion.
Thanks for your support,
Maureen

JBCA: Special Car Event - Sat Aug 19

Dear Members,
On Saturday August 19th, 2012 there will be a special car event in and around Amador County. The show will be based at the Italian Picnic Grounds and JBCA has been asked to help entertain these people and encourage them to shop in Jackson and Sutter Creek. The actual car show is Sunday, so there will be considerable free time for what is expected to be 900 to 1000 people, with very high-end show cars, from all over the state and country.
The  organizers want to send these people to your business. They propose that you offer a one-day discount or special to the car show members, if they come in and ask about it. The key for them will be to see the poster of the car show on your front door. They get a registration packet when they arrive for the show, so they will know about the promotion. Sutter Creek merchants have agreed to this concept already. JBCA has posters available now. We can also help you get a coupon or offer into the show's "goodie bag" if you can supply them with several hundred items.
If you are interested, call me 601-5698, or come by MWF 9 to 1 in JBCA office and we will fix you up. The cars in this show are the best you will ever see, with well-heeled owners. They are the kind of tourist we are looking for. I know this is short notice, but well worth doing.

Hein & Company transforming itself in unique ways

August 1, 2012 - Hein & Company Bookstore’s current media room with used DVDs, VHSs, CDs, and computer games will be pushed back deeper inside the hulk of its building to create in its place a Steam Punk Room filled with gadgets, gears, vintage curiosities, Victorian rarities, and novelties from a bygone industrial era.  This project will be completed by October, 2012.

At the same time, the proprietors of Hein & Company are renovating their office.  You may not find it unless you discover the bookcase that reveals itself in a very “abby-normal” way – and only if you know the pass-phrase:  Think Transylvania; think castles; think destiny; think of a crazed doctor and provocative assistant who are determined to discover the source of a melancholic violin sonata – only then will the pass-phrase occur to you.  This project will be complete by August, 2012.

Although it may seem improbable, it’s true:  An even greater trick is up their sleeves.  Hein & Company Bookstore intends to build a recreation of 221-B Baker Street, Sherlock Holmes' Victorian flat in London, circa 1887.  You may say it's excellent!  But it's only elementary!  As well as existing as a homage to one of the greatest detectives who ever lived (only questionably in the Imagi-Nation), it will be offered as a pilgrimage site for Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts the world over.  “Baker Street West” will provide a venue for local events that beg for the unusual or mysterious.  This project will be complete in 2013.

Where an event exists, there must be a reception area to receive guests.  Hence, The Sola-Luna Lounge, a late Victorian/African/Egyptian antechamber is being designed and slated to complete in 2013.

Our renovations here pay tribute to Amador County, to Main Street Jackson, and to all the shopkeepers who work so hard in this county.  If you would like to be involved, please let us know.

Donations are accepted from “Friends” of 221-B Baker Street and The Sola-Luna Lounge and will be acknowledged by a “sleuth” or “big-game” plaque or documented in the “Holmes Hounds” master ledger or honored by a private party.

Hein & Company is looking for all things Victorian as well as all things Egyptian or African from the Victorian era.  Any donations of Sherlock Holmes’ books or pastiches will be given credit for other Hein & Company merchandise.
